Did You Know . . . Fresh chili pepper or dried chili powder can help you fight obesity, cancer and heart disease? ! ! !

I don't know about you, but give me some hot pepper soup any day, any time! I have always had a weakness for hot, spicy and tasty meals. Nothing like a spicy meal to clear out your midday brain fog and bring some spark back into your life, right? Kidding! But you have to agree with me that eating a delicious meal with lots of pepper has a way of warming up your insides, tingling your toes as well as waking up your taste buds. That, my friend, is a good thing!

Chilli pepper includes and is referred to as 'sombo' and 'atarodo' in the Yoruba Language. It is a natural spice that gives foods a hot taste. This hot spicy flavor, to those who appreciate it, can be both exciting and exhilarating. But there is more to this spice to get you tingling; which is the natural anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, healing and antioxidant properties of the spice. Fresh, dried or powdered, Chillies contain capsaicin, a powerful component that boosts brain activities, relieves joint pain and plays an active role in cancer prevention. Chillies are also rich in several vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, C, B6 and manganese.

Inflammation has been linked to a number of degenerative conditions like cancer, heart problems, arthritis and brain diseases. The anti-inflammatory properties in natural foods such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, herbs and spices, can be used to protect against and manage the pains associated with inflammation.

Chillies are great for your cardiovascular health. When consumed in foods, it has a warming effect in the body that improves blood flow and alleviates cold hands and feet. This makes it particularly beneficial to those who live in cold regions.

Antioxidants are powerful nutrients provided by mother nature to help our bodies fight diseases. Like all other natural herbs and spices, Chilli peppers are not only rich in antioxidants but they are also good for the brain. Natural spices protect the brain cells and prevent memory loss in old age. The antioxidants in chillies are effective in boosting the body's immune system, fighting infections and preventing cancers.

So as you prepare your tasty meals this evening, bring the excitement back to your meals and life by simply setting your tongue on fire with some hot, hot chillies.
