FOUR ANTIOXIDANT-RICH BEVERAGES FOR LONGEVITY

Want to live long? Here are four nutritionally rich beverages that can help you achieve that.

                                 Water

Glass of drinking water

One of the best decisions you can make for your health is to rid yourself of sugary drinks and hydrate with water. Water is an excellent beverage for a number of valid reasons. Water slows down the aging process of your organs, especially the skin. Studies indicate that heart attack and stroke usually happens in the wee hours of the morning, so drinking at least a glass of water before going to bed at night and in the early hours of the morning, lowers your blood pressure and keeps the blood from clotting.

                                Coffee

Drinking a cup of organic, whole bean-black coffee is one of life's greatest pleasures but it could do more harm than good if it is consumed in excess or with added sugars and artificial sweeteners. So, don't overindulge; consume in moderation. Coffee, however, has a host of health benefits, from being a brain food to lowering depression risk to boosting the body's immunity and promoting longevity. Research has shown that coffee can lower your risk of degenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease, dementia, type 2 diabetes, stroke and certain cancers such as Melanoma(skin cancer).

                              Green Tea

Green tea is one of Nature's Super Elixirs. It is a 100% natural and herbal "wonder" tea with a host of health benefits. Green tea is rich in antioxidants that promote longevity by boosting the body's immunity against inflammation, which is the root cause of diseases. The anti-aging compounds in the tea have been found to protect the cells from malignant growth, thus preventing a wide range of cancers including lung, prostrate and breast cancer. Green tea is also effective in preventing degenerative diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. Green tea has been shown to lower the bad cholesterol in the body and inhibit blood clots in the arteries, thus reducing the risk of stroke, hypertension and heart disease.

                               Red Wine

Red wine and grapes

The active ingredient in red wine is called 'resveratrol', which is richly present in the grapes used in the wine. Research shows that this key ingredient may slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease, reduce an elevated blood pressure, prevent cancer, boost brain health and slow down the aging process. However, with red wine, it must be stressed that when consumed in excess, it can do more harm than good. Eating a bunch of deep-coloured and thick-skinned grapes is a much better and safer alternative, in my opinion.

Which is your favorite beverage? And why do you love it?
